The much sought after Kruger Private reserves are located alongside the unfenced western boundary of Kruger National Park. They offer the best Big 5 sightings and have upmarket & luxurious lodges. The reserves are easily accessible by road or air and have fly-in airstrips to cater to smaller aircrafts. Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Undoubtedly this 66,000 hectare reserve is most popular and sought after in the Greater Kruger area. The luxurious and upmarket lodges & their sub-reserves such as Singita, Londolozi, Sabi Sabi, Mala Mala are located in this Private reserve
Timbavati Game Reserve
Timbavati is a popular private reserve that has 53,000 hectares of combined land of the Timbavati association with 50 odd members. It is on the northern side of Sabi Sands reserve with Kruger park on the western side. This Big 5 reserve is famouse for its white lions born with a recessive gene that gives them the white colour
Thornybush Game Reserve
This 11,000 hectare private reserve is quite popular and features Big 5. It has good accomodation facilities suitable for all types of visitors. It borders the Kapama Game Reserve and is located close to the Timbavati Game Reserve and the Kruger Park. The Reserve’s surface area is approximately 11.000 Ha of mainly open savannah
Balule Game Reserve
The 40,000 hectare Balule sits near the famous Olifant river. A few notable lodges in the luxury segment and few in not so luxury segment are there in this Big 5 reserve. Like Timbavati and others, Balule Nature Reserve forms part of the Greater Kruger Park and is a member of Associated Private Nature Reserves (APNR). The fences seperating APNR reserves Timbavati, Klaserie, Grietjie and Balule have been removed thus paving way of conservation and free movement of animals mainly the Big 5.
Kapama Game Reserve
The 16,000 hectar Kapama is just across Hoedspruit Airport. Located between the Blyde River Valley and Kruger National Park, Kapama’s has four lodges to suit different experiences. Kapama has it own airstrip which allows travellers to fly in from Johannesburg and Cape Town, but its very conveniently located just across Eastgate Airport
Klaserie Game Reserve
The 60 000 hectare Klaserie Private Game Reserve is situated across Klaserie River. Big 5 and lot of game viewing is there in Klaserie. It’s arguably one of the largest private owned reserve in South africa. The reserve has quite a few lodges of different varieties. Klaserie is well known for its walking trails.

Manyeleti Game Reserve
